What this program is, in plain English

After a death, families often suspect there was a life insurance policy but cannot find the paperwork. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners runs a free search. You submit the person's name, date of birth, Social Security number, and death certificate information, and the request goes out to participating insurance companies across the country. Any company that finds a match and confirms you are the beneficiary or the person handling the estate contacts you directly. It is free. Never pay a service to do this.
